Yahoo recently confirmed they are testing Bing powered results “offline,” which we have already known since July 17th. But today for the first time, Yahoo has confirmed they will test Bing powered results in the live search results. SearchEngineLand received an email which wrote:
“Though much of our testing is already happening offline, this month we’ll also test the delivery of organic and paid search results provided by Microsoft on live Yahoo! Traffic.”
Bing search results may appear on Yahoo as soon as today. Yahoo stressed the importance of this change, citing comScore’s claim that Bing will ultimately power 30% of the search queries globally on both paid and organic search.
The full switch over will be sometime in August or September, and possibly later, if the testing produces bugs and flaws.
This forces those in the Internet Marketing industry to rethink strategies related to both paid and organic Search Engine Optimization. Bing’s potential to power 30% of the search queries, plus Yahoo’s marketing tactics to promote the new Bing/Yahoo search engine, can put them in tight competition with Google like never before.
