Facebook Announces A Major Change That Will Affect Your Social Media Campaign

Facebook-Contest-GuidelinesFacebook made it easier for businesses to create and manage social media campaigns by allowing Page administrators to use both Page Timelines and third party applications when managing Facebook social media marketing campaigns. This major change to the Page Terms now allows businesses to:

  • Collect entries by having users post on the Page or comment/like a Page post
  • Collect entries by having users message the Page
  • Utilize likes as a voting mechanism

It has now become compliant with Facebook Page terms to encourage your audience to “Like” in order to enter a contest or give-away.

However, Facebook still prohibits Pages from tagging or asking online users to tag themselves in images that they are not actually in. For example, it is ok to ask your audience to “Like” a product or leave a comment for a chance to win, but they cannot encourage users to tag themselves in pictures as part of a contest entry.

Page Timeline or App: How You Should Run Your Social Media Campaign and Promotions

With this update, creating a promotion will be much easier for companies with limited design resources and faster for running a quick social media campaign. Promotions and contests will now also be displayed in the News Feeds of the users who like your Page and can be promoted to a larger audience by using Promoted Posts or ads for Page posts.

On the other hand, administering a Facebook contest through an app also has its benefits. With many design options and styles, it gives a more personalized experience and flexibility. Apps allow for the collection of data, such as users’ emails, in a database which is more appealing to larger brands with a broader social media fan base.

More Changes to Come from Facebook

As part of a collaboration effort between Facebook and Shutterstock, businesses will be able to access over 25 million Shutterstock images for use in their Facebook ads at no additional cost. A Shutterstock library will be integrated directly into the Facebook ad creation tool. Finding a high-quality pic for your next Facebook social media campaign will definitely be much easier!
