If you experienced issues logging into your Facebook account today, you’re not the only one. The site went down for most users around 12 p.m. ET on Friday August 1, 2014. Users regained access to the social networking site approximately 30 minutes later. Our Toronto social media marketing have been able to access the site since the outage, although response time was slower than usual. The site appeared to return to normal operation at about 2 p.m. ET.

Facebook outage

Facebook made the following statement in response to the outage.

“Traffic and error-rates are almost back to normal after a coordinated intervention by our engineering teams. We are now monitoring the situation and we have our best engineers determining the root-cause of this issue that affected much of our web fleet. We apologize for any inconvenience and we aim to ensure that this issue does not repeat.”

The news comes just a little over a month after Facebook suffered a 30-minute outage which affected the social network’s web and mobile site as well as connected apps. The issue appears to be technical in nature and not due to any suspicious activity. We will keep you updated as we receive more news on the subject.
