As an SEO company in Toronto we felt it was important to write this article on seven important rules for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) implementation. We are presenting these rules as a series of articles. Each article will focus on one important SEO rule. For more information on this topic please refer to the article in SEO News.
Understand User-Intent
User-Intent is a crucial SEO point. At iRISEmedia we believe this is due to the fact that the beginning phase of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) begins with keywords. The proper keywords your potential clients would choose when searching for your business in their preferred search engine of choice. NOT what you would choose. Yes, no one knows your industry better than you however you also know all the technical jargon that your potential clients do not know.
The best people to get feedback on keywords are your customers or potential customers. Most businesses today have a marketing tracker. For example, after the pleasantries between a sales rep and a potential client have been said, the sales representative asks, “How did you hear about us”? The prospect answers, the internet. The sales rep might then ask, “What keywords did you Google?
This type of dialogue is significant on a marketing level as well as a technique for relationship building in customer service. You are gathering very important data because after a few days if not sooner you will see a pattern in the keywords being used. Why waste time guessing when your prospects are telling you today what is driving them to your website and then to your business?
Years ago we had a client who offered a service in Niagara Falls, Canada. Niagara Falls is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of North America. As an SEO company in Toronto our main objective is to increase page ranking as well as drive qualified leads to our client’s websites. What we noticed in our research was a lot of people were spelling Niagara as Niagra (without the second a). This makes sense because 90% of people that visit Niagara Falls are tourists or recently arrived immigrants. It makes sense they would spell the word like it sounds i.e. “Niagra”. We used this to our client’s advantage when it came time to managing their Google Adwords Campaign. The misspelling got a higher percentage of the traffic at a fraction of the Cost-Per-Click. The bottom line, a lot more traffic at less money.
The key to SEO Rule #1 is to understand USER INTENT as well as USER DEMOGRAPHICS when choosing keywords to optimize.
